The Vision of the Brick-Walled Fortress

The Vision of the Brick-Walled Fortress

My Fortress

I live in a fortress that is fortified with brick walls.  These walls protect me from invasion.  They protect me from people and situations that might be a threat to me.  The main problem with my fortress is that although it keeps people and things out, it also keeps me in.  I am a prisoner of my own making.  So, while I attempt to protect my soul, my spirit is being buried.  In addition, this fortress hinders my ability to be effective in ministry because a certain degree of transparency and openness is required to operate in love and truth.  I realize that I cannot be an effective minister unless I allow Jesus to remove the bricks from my personal fortress.

The Brick Walls

There are two brick walls to my fortress; the outer wall encloses my garden (or soul).  In my mind, my garden is a safe place where I can control the conditions.  In the garden is the church; family members and friends that I choose to let in, my marriage and my work.   The other wall, which is beyond the garden is double fortified and encloses my inner sanctum (my heart).

Jesus is Waiting

So, there Jesus is standing on the outer perimeter of my fortress encouraging me to come out, but I will not come out any further than my garden.  Jesus waits patiently.  I hear him say, “Cast your cares on me.  I care for you.” and “My yoke is easy.”  He does not make a move to remove the bricks, but encourages me to remove them myself.  We start on the fortress of my soul as I hand him bricks that allow more light to shine in my garden. As I hand each brick to him, he shows me the word written on it before He puts it in a bag.

The Names on the Bricks in my Garden (Fortress of the Soul)

Unforgiveness, Bitterness, Resentment,  Anger, Abortion, Divorce, Malice, Fornication, Abuse, Revenge, Abandonment, Selfishness, Betrayal, Gossip, Lies, Slander, Manipulation, Judgment, Adultery, Covetousness, Stealing, Idolatry, Witchcraft, Violence, etc.

The Lord said, “These are visible sins.  Things that are manifest through your personality. Your character is revealed through your actions.”
  • Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.  Matthew 12:34, Luke 6:45
  • A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.  John 13:34-35

As Jesus deposits each brick into the bag, I notice that it never gets full or heavy no matter how many bricks I give him. The bag looks as empty as it did before I handed him the brick.

The Names on the Bricks of my inner sanctum (Fortress of my Heart)

Unbelief, Unrepentant, Deceit, Hypocricy, Selfish Ambition, Impure Motives, Greed, Jealousy, Envy, Guilt, Pride, etc.

The Lord said these are the hidden things that keep you from having a pure heart.
  • For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.  Matthew 6:21
  • The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Jeremiah 17:9
  • Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.  James 4:8

Revelation

This vision made me realize that I was not as free as I believed.  Also, the process of removing these bricks would take as long as I chose to hold onto or to let go of each brick.  This fortress would need to be completely demolished before the Lord could trust me with His power.  I thank the Lord for this vision.  Not all of the names on the bricks apply to my personal situation, but they are listed because this vision was not exclusively for me.  As His prophetic scribe, the Lord knew He could trust me to share it.  It was meant to bless others.  It was meant to help set people free from their fortress.  I was priviledged to be the first partaker.  I pray that this vision causes you to examine yourself, as it did me.

Visualization Exercise

Imagine your own personal fortress.  Begin handing Jesus the bricks one by one.  Think about the word on each brick you hand Him.  Experience freedom from the load you have been carrying.  Relinquish false burdens that have weighed you down.   Use a journal to write a scripture for each word that you can refer to daily to reinforce your deliverance.

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.  John 8:36

I pray that this blessed you.
